Goodyear Allegra:  A Tire Worth Looking For

By SmokingTyres.com - Finding the Goodyear Allegra tire for you car may not be the easiest task in the world, but many owners feel that it is worth the search.  Why would something like a simple tire be so difficult to find.  After all, there are tire retailers all over the place.

This issue is the first issue to be dealt with when trying to locate a Goodyear Allegra tire.  The Allegra is only manufactured for Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club retail stores.  Therefore, they are not able to be found where most tires are sold.  Then, since the tire is made for discount stores only, it’s logical to assume that the price of the tire is lower than some of its counterparts in the market.  This proves to be true.  Overall, the Goodyear Allegra markets at least $20 less per tire (both online and at the actual stores) than the average tire.  When in the market for four tires, then, an $80 difference in overall cost is a good selling point.

But, what about the quality of the Goodyear Allegra tire?  Does the lower price automatically mean that the performance is substandard? Not necessarily.  The specs of the tire, according to Goodyear, are as follows: $54.98 (each, approximately), 81T speed & load rating, 44 PSI (3.0 bar) maximum pressure, 42/40 PSI front/back (2.9/2.8 bar) recommended, 1019 lbs. (462 kg) maximum load, Non-LRR (Standard Rolling Resistance), 10/32 inch (8 mm) tread depth, "A" Traction, "B" Temperature, 560 Treadwear, 75,000 mile (120,700 km) warranty.

Each of these specs indicates that the tire, overall, would perform well under most conditions.  The 560 treadware, though, is a little on the low side (with 700 being considered average/high average).  However, for the price, and considering that the rest of the specs are more than decent, the Goodyear Allegra is a decent buy.

In fact, many Toyota Prius (hybrid) car owners prefer the Allegra to the tires that come standard on the car.  On an online forum where owners share their preferences and experiences, http://john1701a.com/prius/prius-tires.htm#Goodyear, the Goodyear Allegra stands up to the wear and tear much better than what is included with the Prius.  While they may have to spend a little over $200 to replace the tires on the car, getting the Goodyear Allegras will save them money over the long run on gas and basic wear and tear.
